Why does your 11-year-old kid need a laptop?

Technology has seeped into our daily lives, and it’s not far-fetched to suggest that life would be quite tumultuous without it.

Both our professional and personal lives are embedded with technological innovations. Home appliances, smartphones, laptops and so much more have become the cornerstone of our daily lives. We have globalization to thank for that.

But we would be remiss to not mention one sector that has been perforated with technology: Education. To say that technological innovation and implementation have broadened the educational spectrum would be an understatement. Students are far more empowered and capable, specifically because of having technology at their disposal.

However, there is a lot of cynicism when it comes to this train of thought.

Do kids really need a laptop? How could it possibly benefit children, as young as 11, to have laptops?

We’re here to answer your questions.

Here are a few reasons why your 11-year-old child needs a laptop

  • Learning

In the modern landscape, it would be a travesty not to broaden our children’s horizons. Gone are the days when reading and writing were the only activities paramount to learning.

Allowing kids to operate on a system at a young age will only enhance their mental growth and serve as a healthy introduction to using software that become crucial in their later studies.

  1. Editing

Sure a child will benefit from perusing his/her coursebook but that same amount of knowledge, if not more, is available online just a click away. It’s tough to argue against inculcating laptops in their educational learning.

Allowing children to create their projects on a system further accentuates their curiosity. The interest that comes with finding new information which otherwise might be buried in a book is priceless. A healthy introduction to creative writing and video editing software could be crucial in their learning years.

  1. Convenient Modes of Interaction

This totally nullifies the ramifications of distant school programs. Children don’t have to exhaust themselves with the toils of travelling anymore. Online classes are available at an arm’s length which gives them a far more convenient platform for learning. Education won’t be impeded by unforeseen circumstances as teachers will still be able to connect with their students. This is a massive victory.

  1. Recreational Activities

A child’s mind is akin to a sponge but even they have a limit before they get saturated. Burdening them with frivolous information will only hinder their growth. Healthy distractions in the form of interactive games and fun videos will give them the required rest and rejuvenation.

These activities will curb the sensory overload which is quite rampant in young kids.

  1. Branching Out Into Other Fields

With the sheer amount of information and interactive learning sessions available online, it’s only fair to assume that children get a much better opportunity to find their niches.

Having a laptop could add years to developing their creative minds, giving their interests a platform to shine.

  • Responsibility

Providing children a laptop can be instrumental in improving their cognitive development and instilling a sense of responsibility. It’s crucial to bestow upon them the importance of being responsible of their possessions.

  • Antiquated Methods

Many feel quite apprehensive about this idea for they completed their education without the aid of technology. It’s difficult for them to identify the benefits of providing amenities, such as laptops to children hence they label it ‘pointless’ and a ‘distraction’ without any cogent arguments.

However, it is imperative to dispel these fears as they are baseless. We have to embrace the progress which education has made in the past few years and not jeopardize our children’s development because of archaic prejudices.

It is important to be careful with the lenience offered on devices such as laptops but to banish them would be myopic.

Our children will only feel grateful for having allowed them to learn and study on laptops. It’s a prudent choice which will aid them for years to come.
